Christmas Office Party Games

Christmas Office Party Games

Festive Frolics for the office
These Christmas office party games
Are all workplace wonders!

You've worked hard all year. But now its time for a bit of fun. After all it is Christmas!

Christmas office party games are also a fun way to settle inter-departmental rivalries.

But we're sure there is none of that in your office…. is there?

The Christmas party games below are easy to understand, easy to organise and lots of festive fun.

They become even more hilarious of course after few Christmas drinks but thats up to you.

Christmas Office Party Games - Cucumber Face

This is so simple its brilliant. People love it though.

Cucumber face can be undertaken as an individual or as a race between a number of players or teams.

What you need:

  • Some slices of cucumber

Sit your party person down in a chair and ask them to tilt their head back slightly.

Place a slice of cucumber on their forehead.

They then have to get the cucumber in their mouth without using their hands.

Everyone else gathers round to watch and laugh. Make sure you have a camera ready!

They will go through all sorts of weird and wonderful facial contortions as they move the cucumber slowly down their face over their eyes and then down the cheek. Eventually, when the cucumber is close enough to the mouth they can begin to use their tongue and lips. And at last there it is in the mouth.

Christmas Office Party Games - Christmas Box

This is a simple kids party game but is just as funny at the office party.

What you need:

  • A few empty cereal packets (for a Christmas twist you could always decorate these in a festive style)
  • A pair of scissors

An open empty cereal packet is placed upright on the ground. The object of the game is to bend over and pick it up in your teeth. No hands on the floor or kneeling down allowed.

This task starts off being quite straight forward and most people will manage it. But, once everyone has had a go, the top 3cms is cut off the top of the packet.

Now its harder. Everyone now has to do it again. After this next round a further 3cms is removed.

The game continues with the packet getting progressively smaller and smaller each time until only a few people will manage to pick it up. (you know the sort - the fit and flexible!).

You may like to reduce by just 1cm for the last few rounds until you find your champion.

Christmas Office Party Games - Aces High

A quick but fun game and a good icebreaker or great towards the end of the evening when everyone has got a little merry.

What you need:

  • A pack of playing cards

You need to prepare your cards in advance depending on the number of players. For 2 teams you need the ace, king, queen and jack of 2 suits and then descending numbers for each suit up to the number of players.

You want to end up with the same numbers of cards (starting from Ace and counting down) for each suit with a card for each player

Discard the other cards.

You then shuffle and place all the cards face down on the floor.

When you shout "GO" everyone should grab a card.

Whoever gets an Ace immediately runs to an agreed line where they sit down and shout out the name of their suit.

The other cardholders of their suit must follow, sitting on the lap of their Ace in descending order.

The minute your suit is in place and everyone seated you all shout the name of your suit and raise your hands in the air.

Variation - If your furniture can take it you can have the Aces sit on a chair before everyone piles onto their lap.

Christmas Office Party Games - Matchbox

This is a party classic but always popular

What you need:

  • A matchbox

Take the matchbox and discard the matches and inner tray.

All the players sit around the table or on the floor.

The first player places the matchbox over their nose.

They must then pass it on to the next player who may only use their nose to take it from them.

This will involve considerable weird and wonderful facial contortions, head tilting and other very peculiar movements. Strictly no hands allowed.

The matchbox continues around the circle until everyone has had a go.

Alternatively you could line up 2 teams. The first to transfer their matchbox all the way along their team's line wins.

Variation. One person is blind-folded and then has to guess the name of the person who passes them the matchbox.

Christmas Office Party Games - Stringing Me Along

Christmas office party ideas

What you need:

  • 2 keys
  • 2 balls of string

Divide your players into 2 teams and line them up.

Tie a key to each ball of string and hand it to the first person in each line.

At the word "GO" they have to drop the key down through their shirt, jumper or top then on down through their trouser leg or skirt.

They then pass the key on to the next person pulling the string through so there is enough slack for their team-mate to also thread the key through their clothing but this time starting at the bottom and working up to the top (bet you wish you hadn't worn those oh-so-tight jeans now!). The string is carefully thread through after so that the 2 people are effectively strung together.

The key is then passed to the next person and so on down the line either starting at the top of someone's clothing or the bottom. It is important that all the other team members continue to feed the string through their own clothing.

By the time the key reaches the end of the line everyone will effectively be tied together.

You can either stop there or work the key back up the line again in the opposite direction.

The winner is the first team to show their key at the end.

A variation if you don't mind snuggling up is to pull the string as taut as possible, meaning everyone has to stand very close. The string is then cut at the ball end and pulled through and out of all the clothes.

Compare the length of the 2 strings to see which team are "The Distant Strangers" and who are "The Office Snugglebunnies"!

Christmas Office Party Games - Perfect Circle

This is a simple one for larger groups. Its supposed to be great for team building!

Everyone forms a circle holding the hips of the person in front of them.

At a given signal everybody slowly bends their knees and "sits" on the lap of the person behind them.

If you get this right you will have a perfect self supporting circle.

Christmas Office Party Games - Picture Proverbs

What you need:

  • A large whiteboard and marker pen or a large presentation pad of blank paper and marker pens.
  • A timer

This is simple. Divide into teams.

In turn each team member is secretly given a proverb or saying. They have to draw it out whilst their team guess.

Set a time limit of 3 minutes max.

Total the seconds taken guessing each proverb for both teams. The quickest guessers win.

Some great proverbs are:

  • Birds of a feather flock together
  • A rolling stone gathers no moss
  • Too many cooks spoil the broth
  • Many hands make light work
  • A stitch in time saves nine

You will find plenty of others in books or on the web.

Other options for your artistic party-goers are:

  • Christmas carols
  • Christmas pop songs
  • Nursery Rhymes
  • TV adverts
  • Pop songs

Christmas Office Party Games - Pat My Knee

This game sounds simple until you try it!

Office Christmas Party

Sit everyone in a circle cross-legged on the floor or seated on chairs quite close to each other.

Each person puts a hand on the knees either side of them creating a network of crossed arms

A pat on the knee is now passed around the circle.

This will start off slowly but you will soon get the hang of it.

When you have your speed up anyone who makes a mistake reverses the order.

This can lead to some frantic changes and a lot of laughter.

Christmas Office Party Games - Balloon Body Builders

What you need:

  • 2 old baggy track suits or sweat pants and tops.
  • A big bag of balloons

Divide your players into 2 teams and have them select a muscle man for each team. There are usually a couple of just the right sort of people in most workplaces.

The chosen 2 then don the track suits.

On the word "Go" each team blows up balloons and inserts as many as possible down the trackie bottoms and up the top of their body builder.

Tip: Slightly smaller balloons work better.

After a certain amount of time call a halt.

Everyone steps back to admire the muscle-bound sports stars.

" Right - Its time to find out who used the most balloons!"

Its now that you reveal a large needle!

Stand the body builders in the middle and pop a balloon in turn on each (through their track suits) counting as you go.

The crowd will enjoy their howls as each balloon is popped!

The winner is the one with the most bangs to their name.

Christmas Office Party Games - Flying Marshmallows

What you need;

  • Marshmallows
  • Paper cups

Divide your guest into couples.

Each couple is lined up 1metre apart.

One person in each team then throws a marshmallow aiming for the cup held by their partner. If they catch it they eat the marshmallow. They then move back a metre and see if they can catch the next one.

This continues with couples dropping out when they fail to catch the marshmallow.

A winning couple are eventually found who continue until they miss.

Christmas Office Party Games - Pass The Cracker Christmas party games for the office

This is a simple game but people enjoy it.

What you need:

  • Several packets of cheap cream crackers or thin biscuits
  • A wooden clothes peg (the spring type) for each guest

Divide your guests into 2 teams and line them up.

Everyone then puts their peg between their teeth.

The first in each team then places a cracker in the jaws of their peg.

Then they turn and pass it to the next person who takes the cracker in their peg.

The trick is co-ordinating the bite and release.

In this way the cracker makes its way to the end of the line where it is dropped on a plate by the last person.

Meanwhile the first person has started another cracker on its way down the line.

The first person in the line is the only one allowed to hold the cracker to start off.

Any dropped crackers are "lost"

The winners are t he first team with 20 crackers on their plate at the end.

Christmas Office Party Games - Snowball Nose

This game can be played as an individual or as a relay.

What you need:

  • Cotton wool balls
  • Jar of Vaseline

Smear players noses with a dab of Vaseline. They then have to plunge their nose into a plate of cotton wool balls until one sticks.

They then carry the ball to the end of an agreed course before dropping it in a bucket by blowing or head shaking (no hands)

The first team with a set number of balls in the bucket wins.

Christmas Office Party Games - Double Gift Wrap

This is a good fun game for an office party

What you need:

  • Suitably sized boxes ie shoe boxes small cereal packets or tupperware type boxes
  • Cheap gift wrap
  • Sticky tape
  • Ribbon
  • Gift tags
  • Scarves or strips of material.

Divide your players up into pairs.

Sit each pair on the floor next to each other. Have them put their touching arms behind them. You then tie these together so they are behind the couple and cannot be used.

Each pair is then given a gift (box) to wrap along with paper, tape and ribbon.

Tip: Its best to have small strips of tape cut and stuck to the back of a chair in front of each couple. Be prepared to add more as needed.

On your command each pair have about 2 minutes to work together with their free hands only to wrap their box as best they can adding ribbon and a gift tag saying Merry Xmas if possible.

Judge when to stop by progress…or lack of it…. being made.

Count down to stop work now.

Now for judging.

You need to really make the most of this and milk the moment. Hold up each effort in turn and ask the crowd what they think!

Praise the good efforts and tease those who have produced dog's dinners.

Give a prize for the best wrapped gift

Christmas Office Party Games - Santa's Beard

This is messy but very funny!

What you need:

  • Some Santa hats.
  • Spray cans of shaving foam or dairy cream (keep these hidden)

Line up some guests sitting on chairs with Santa hats.

Then you say "Just one thing missing - whoever heard of Santa without a beard and whiskers?"

You then reveal the spray cans and each Santa is given a nice creamy beard. (you may like to have a spare bit of material to cover the Santa's clothes)

They must remain in their Santa poses at all times

Judge your Bearded Santas - the Father Christmas with the most applause wins!

Don't forget to take some photographs
